If you are a history buff and particularly one that likes medical history I highly suggest that you read “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. This books is based on a racially charged, fincially motivated, true story that has perhaps saved one of your relatives lives (reflecing on your genogram). The story is also one of medical ethics and distrust. While you are not required to read the text for the class it will fascinate you and it is a page turner. To short cut the read, you can watch the HBO film staring Oprah…the book is better….

Henrietta Lacks developed cancer of the uterine cervix, and it prematurely ended her life. Research what is known about the causes of cervical cancer, and discuss the possible component causes of Henrietta’s death. Do not limit yourself to pathophysiology. Consider the full spectrum of biological, behavioral, and socio-economic factors that contributed to her development of cervical cancer and to her subsequent death as a result of it.
