“Place” is the character of an area as defined by its physical and human features. Each place on earth has certain unique properties (conditions) and qualities (human perceptions). The concept of place tells us what is where and what it is like there.

Your assignment is to write a one page description of a “Place” where you have traveled. The more distant or unique the place, the better; however, if you haven’t traveled many places write about a place you have been that isn’t in your daily routine.

Include both the description of place and your sense of place in your essay. In addition to the physical and cultural description, be as descriptive as possible when writing about “what it is like there” – what do you hear, feel, smell, taste, etc.
