Health Science,”Carstyn Franklin is a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA) working in a busy hand theraphy clinic. She and the other two assistants work with patient’s, make splints, and teach the use of adaptive devices so that patients can learn to perform homemaking and self care practices as independently as possible. Brandon Williams, one of the other assistants,has the habit of leaving equipment, tools, and supplies wherever he last used them instead of putting them away. This result in delays for the other assistants because they must locate needed items before they can do their own work.

October 16, 2021In summary, cultural competence is important for advanced nurses to perfect, and when unsure to ask the patient rather than assume or stereotype populations. Some patients can be of another race, but have been born and raised in America without cultural influence, and assuming they follow the cultural norms can cause distrust and anger at excluding them from the American culture. When building a relationship with the patient it is important to address concerns of religion, socioeconomic status, religion, health risks, and preventions the patient may or may not participate in. Setting goals with the patient for his health promotion will help the patient buy into their care and help increase responsibility for their healthcare. Through the assessment of patients healthcare providers will have a better picture of health inequalities that can lead to addressing barriers to care.”
