For Essay 3, write a four (4) to seven (7) page paper about  1.) How social media has changed our lives, or  2.) Climate change.

Focus on finding the articles first. Then, once you collect several articles, print them out, read them, and decide on the best ones.

Length: 4 to 7 pages. The 4-7 page length does not include the Works Cited page. The works cited page is a separate page after the last page of your paper, but it is still connected to your essay. So, just hit enter until you come to page four (or whatever the last page is) of your paper, then title it Works Cited.

List the entries (sources) alphabetically. Do not upload your Works Cited page as a separate file.

A  minimum of four sources is required. Please note: Your textbooks for this class are not  sources.

For an A paper, you need to use articles from EFSC library databases as your research article sources!

If you insist on going to the Web to look for articles, I urge you stay away from .coms.

Sometimes, .edu sites have decent articles. At times, a .org will have scholarly sources but may be extremely slanted or biased in some way. Generally, I suggest you stay away from .gov for a college research paper. Use the excellent resources available to you through EFSC databases.

I do not consider Wikipedia or Sparknotes or Essays.com or Dreamessay.com or anything like them to be scholarly sources. Do not let me see them cited in your paper unless you want points taken off.

Needless to say, what you do with your free time is up to you; just don’t use Wikipedia or Sparknotes or any of that type of substandard site in your in-text citations or on the Works Cited page.

Use articles in the literary databases available to you through the EFSC library. The college database articles  have been peer-reviewed. Click on the Library link. Then, click on Databases. Explore the great library site our reference librarians have perfected! Just click on the library link in the research paper folder.

Please note: Whatever sources you cite, You must use correct MLA format and in-text citations. MLA format includes a Works Cited page.

I suggest you read the articles about social media (FaceBook and Twitter are the two major social media sites) or climate change, if you prefer, and then put your tentative Works Cited page together. You can always go back later and change or delete what you don’t need.

Then, decide on your thesis statement and write your paper. Support your claims with in-text citations from  your sources, the database articles. The articles can come from ebooks, online journals, newspapers, or magazines. I prefer scholarly journals to magazines.

How you approach the essay is up to you: argue, analyze, or persuade. Use your Bedford reader as a guide.

Please note: I don’t expect to see a lot of “I.” You are researching social media, not yourself. How has FaceBook or Twitter changed us as a society? How has our culture changed due to social media?

What is the latest about climate change?

Yes, the topics are huge. Here is where you use your intelligence: Choose one and narrow it down to a manageable thesis for your essay. The subject is social media; the topic is up to you. Remember–how, where, when, and who.
