Cutaneous sensory receptors present in the skin provide specific information (temperature, texture, pressure, vibration, and pain) that is dependent upon specific sensory stimulation. However, cutaneous stimulation without verification of information from other senses (visual, for example) can be misleading and inaccurate. For example, hot and cold are very different types of stimulation, but these can be difficult to properly identify and interpret without proper context.

Describe a situation where the cutaneous senses (tactile senses) have misled you to believe something that is not true or accurate. Describe and explain the situation. Using the information in your text and other outside sources, provide an explanation as to why this misinterpretation was perceived (physiological, neurological, and perceptual basis).
